How Do You Know If Your Child Is Not Autistic?

October 8, 2025

Every child develops at their own pace, so differences in behavior or learning don’t always mean autism. A child who is not autistic typically meets developmental milestones in communication, social interaction, and play within the expected age range. They may make eye contact naturally, respond to their name, engage in pretend play, and show interest in interacting with others.

Autistic children, on the other hand, may show early signs such as delayed speech, repetitive movements, intense focus on specific interests, or challenges with changes in routine. However, only a qualified professional, such as a developmental pediatrician or psychologist can determine whether a child is on the autism spectrum through a comprehensive evaluation.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, early assessment is the best step forward. Even if your child isn’t autistic, evaluations can identify other areas where support might help them thrive.

At Divine Steps ABA, we offer guidance and early intervention services to help families understand their child’s needs and take the next step with confidence.
