What Does a BCBA Actually Do Day to Day?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) plays a vital role in supporting individuals with autism and related conditions. Each day, a BCBA designs and oversees therapy plans rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Their work begins with assessments, observing behaviors, identifying triggers, and setting measurable goals. From there, they create individualized treatment plans that target skills such as communication, social interaction, and daily living.

BCBAs also train and guide Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and other team members, ensuring therapy sessions are consistent and effective. They collaborate closely with parents, caregivers, and educators, offering strategies that extend beyond therapy sessions into home and school environments. Data collection and analysis are central to their day, allowing them to adjust interventions and celebrate progress.
