Parent training
You're playing the
biggest role
And your training should reflect that
Your child spends hours each week in ABA therapy. But most of their life happens with you, their strongest advocates.
Parent training gives you the tools to turn everyday into countless opportunities for growth.
What
parent training looks like
You've tried to make other systems work for your family. Now let us work around yours. Here's how we bring world-class
ABA therapy services right to your doorstep:
1
One-on-one coaching
Your BCBA works with you directly — not in a classroom, not in a group. Just you, your child, and strategies tailored to your family's actual challenges.
2
Real-time practice
We don't hand you a packet and wish you luck. You practice strategies with your child while your BCBA coaches you through it. You ask questions. We adjust. You try again.
3
Focus on what's hard right now
Bedtime meltdowns. Refusal to get in the car seat. Throwing food at dinner. Transitions between activities. We tackle the challenges that make your day harder.
4
Skills you can implement
We teach you how to reinforce communication, redirect behaviors, handle meltdowns, and encourage independence. Practical strategies for the real moments you're living through.
Why parent training matters
Join a team that goes the extra mile to make your work experience enjoyable and rewarding.
You're with your child more than we are
Your child has therapy sessions a few times a week. You're with them every day — mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays. When you know how to reinforce what they're learning, progress accelerates.
Consistency across settings
When the same strategies are used at home and in therapy, your child learns faster. Consistency makes skills stick.
You become the expert on your child
ABA isn't magic. It's a set of tools. Once you learn them, you don't need us for every situation. You can handle new challenges as they come up.
Confidence when therapy ends
ABA therapy doesn't last forever. When your child graduates from formal services, you'll have the skills to support them independently.

What you'll learn in
parent training
You've probably been disappointed before. We understand. Here's what we do differently:
How to reinforce communication
Your child starts using a new word or gesture in therapy. We teach you how to encourage and reinforce it at home so it becomes part of their daily communication.
How to handle challenging behaviors
Meltdowns, aggression, refusal, tantrums. We teach you why behaviors happen and how to respond in ways that reduce them over time instead of accidentally reinforcing them.
How to teach new skills
Getting dressed. Brushing teeth. Following two-step directions. We break down tasks your child struggles with and show you how to teach them step by step.
How to use positive reinforcement effectively
Rewards aren't bribes. We teach you how to use reinforcement strategically so your child is motivated to learn without becoming dependent on external rewards.
How to handle transitions
Leaving the playground. Turning off the TV. Getting in the car. Transitions are hard for many kids with autism. We teach you how to make them smoother.
How to support social skills
Playing with siblings. Sharing toys. Taking turns. Greeting people. We teach you how to create opportunities for social learning at home.
How to generalize skills across settings
Your child learns to ask for help in therapy. We teach you how to make sure they also ask for help at home, at school, and in the community.

Parent training isn't an add-on. It's part of your child's treatment plan. (And arguably the most important part.)
Your BCBA schedules parent training sessions based on your availability and your family's needs. Sessions happen in your home, so you're learning strategies in the place where you'll really use them.

What parents say about training
"I didn't realize I was making things worse."
One mom was giving her son a snack every time he screamed because she didn't know what else to do. Turns out, she was reinforcing the screaming. Her BCBA taught her a different approach, and within two weeks, the screaming decreased.
— Lisa R.
"I feel like I can handle things now."
A dad said he used to panic when his daughter had a meltdown in public. After parent training, he knew exactly what to do — stay calm, redirect, reinforce the replacement behavior. "I'm not guessing anymore," he said.
— Mark S.
"The strategies work for my other kids, too."
Several parents tell us the ABA strategies they learn help with all their children — not just the one in therapy. Consistency, clear expectations, positive reinforcement — it works for everyone.
— Jennifer M.

Common questions about
parent training
Every parent deserves clarity and confidence. Here’s what families across Maryland want to know as they begin their ABA journey with us.
How often will I have parent training sessions?
It depends on your child's treatment plan and your family's needs. Most families have parent training sessions 1-2 times per month, though some need more frequent support.
Will training happen at my house?
Yes. Parent training typically happens in your home so you're learning strategies in the environment where you'll actually use them.
Do both parents need to attend?
Ideally, yes. When both parents learn the same strategies, consistency increases. But we understand schedules don't always align. We work with whoever can be there.
What if I have questions between training sessions?
Your BCBA is available by phone and email. If something comes up, reach out. We don't make you wait until the next scheduled session.
Will I be expected to do therapy with my child on my own?
No. You're learning strategies to support your child's progress, not replace formal therapy. Parent training empowers you to reinforce skills and handle challenging moments — it doesn't turn you into a therapist.
Is parent training covered by insurance?
Yes. Parent training is typically included as part of your child's ABA therapy authorization and covered by insurance.
What if I feel overwhelmed?
That's normal. ABA has a learning curve. Your BCBA will pace training based on what you're ready for. We don't dump everything on you at once.
Have more questions?
You don't have to figure this out alone
Raising a child with autism is hard. You're navigating behaviors you don't understand, challenges you didn't expect, and moments when nothing you try seems to work.
Parent training gives you strategies that actually work — not generic advice from the internet, not guesswork, but evidence-based techniques tailored to your child.
You're already doing the hardest job. Let us give you the tools to do it with more confidence and less stress.
